SIAM.

BANGKOK.

It is now said that H.E. the Foreign Minister will take oue of the French mail steamers from Singapore and proceed on his way to London through France. It is also said that H.E, will endeavour to effect a revision of the Treaties that now exist between Siam and the Great Western powers. It has not yet transpired what particular parts of those treaties the Siamese wish modified. Asiatic powers cannot reasonably expect Christian nations to grant them the bene- fits of International Law till they themselves honestly fulfill all the requirements of Inter- national aw.

Major-General E. W. Donovau is now on a visit to Bangkok. and is the guest of the Siamese Government at the Ambassadorial Residence. His Majesty the King has honoured him with an audience at the palace. The General bas visited the principal Ministers of State. Tho Siamese Government has provided facilities that the General and those who have accompanied him may have a pleasure excursion to Ayuthin, and an opportunity to visit the more imposing temples, and see what may interest them in Bangkok.

All friends of humanity will be pleased to learn that Mr. W. G. Palgrave, H.B.M's Agent and Consul Genaral, has been rendering kind services in endeavouring to effect an amelioration of the condition of the aged father and the bro thers of the late ''ra Preecha. We hear he has been so far successful as to obtain from His Majesty the pardon of the brothers, and their restoration to their previous position. This favour H.M, cheerfully granted, as their seat- ence was imprisonment according to H.M's. pleasure, and it was therefore in his power to grant the pardon at his pleasure. In the case of the father, the seutence was death, which H.M. commuted to imprisonment for life. The par- i dou of the aged father is in a somewhat more complicated condition.-Siam Advertiser.
